THE DANCE OF THE BULL

The culture surrounding Bulls in general was imported from Spain - and though the Bull Dance is a central feature of many Purhepecha fiestas and celebrations, it also arrived with the Spanish.  In this dance, the women taunt the bull with serviettes that they dangle from left to right - and the men take turns passing the bull headdress around the dance-floor.  The bull headdress is crafted from a wooden frame covered in crepe paper, in much the same style as a pinata.
